Cassandra Drake is a partner acting primarily as a family lawyer, and estate litigator. In her family practice, she acts as a litigator, Collaborative Family Lawyer, and Family Law Mediator. Cassandra joined the firm in 2014 and became a partner in 2019. She is the leader of the family law practice group.
With over a decade of experience in family law and estate litigation. Cassandra is a resolution-focused advocate committed to guiding clients through challenging transitions with integrity and care. Cassandra prioritizes amicable solutions that protect relationships and preserve emotional well-being – particularly when children are involved.
Cassandra blends legal acumen with empathy, offering clients practical options and clear guidance while avoiding unnecessary conflict. She is a strong proponent of mediation, collaborative law, and out-of-court agreements, but also brings strategic litigation skills when courtroom advocacy is required. She has appeared on behalf of clients and assisted counsel at all levels of court in British Columbia.
With a particular focus on cases involving children, she brings a compassionate, child-centered approach to every legal matter. Cassandra has worked/liaised with children’s lawyers. She has also advocated to have children’s lawyers appointed to ensure the children’s views were heard in court.
Cassandra is the co-vice chair of the CBABC Children’s Law section. As an executive member of the Children’s Law Section, she has put forward a proposal with the Ministry of the Attorney General to amend section 203 of the Family Law Act to lower the threshold for appointment of a children’s lawyer and ensure that a child has the same rights as a party to the family law proceeding.
With a background in civil litigation and a deep understanding of estate law, Cassandra is skilled at navigating will variation claims, breach of fiduciary duty claims, undue influence allegations, contested and uncontested committeeships, and trust administration disputes. She frequently handles cases involving significant financial assets, family-owned businesses, and multi-jurisdictional estate issues.
Cassandra was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2013 after receiving her Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in 2009 and her Juris Doctor in 2012, both from the University of Victoria. Prior to joining Lindsay Kenney, Cassandra began her legal career as a student and associate with a large regional firm in Vancouver, practicing in the areas of insurance, employment and business litigation.
